BEAUTIFUL BONDAGE
Risqué was immediately captivated by the work of Brian Biedul. His Neo-Classical minimalistic nudes focus on pure form and portray a curious vulnerability. The constrained confines of the edges of the canvas evoke emotions of anxiety through the subjects seemingly useless flexing & leveraging efforts to escape the unseen boundaries that appear to hold the subject captive in a nonexistent void.
Passion for pure form is Brian’s motivation for a three part series, “Spaces”. The “Rectangles” works, first in the series, utilize the nude male figure to articulate the space.
Brian’s “Rectangles” series is sharing the spotlight with Alejandro Gehry in a new exhibit, “Raw Space” curated by Delia Cabral. The exhibition examines two diverse artists and subject matters; gestalt conceptual space and human sexuality, separate ideas united through the use of the human form. Alejandro Gehry’s work is contrasted with Biedul’s, as it is represents human sexuality, pushing boundaries and confronting societal taboos. Biedul & Gehry: Raw Space opens at DCA Fine Art in Santa Monica,
Upcoming… Biedul’s work will be included along with the likes of Hockney in an upcoming book from Rizzoli Publications, which examines the male nude in contemporary art by David Leddick. The book entitled “Male Nude Next” is due out in the Fall of 2008.
Risqué just couldn’t bring himself to hang a frame around this brilliantly constrained work. Cruise through Brian’s stimulating work in his on line gallery at www.biedul.com or experience the magnificence of his work at his “Raw Space” exhibition through December.
